The sweep of the Hebrew Hammers in Jerusalem left the Red Crescents 6-6 on their most recent road trip, it did move them closer to Jerusalem but with the week bookended by losses, we still remained three & half games back of them. Our win tally is now past 60 and only nine short of Red Crescents’ highest ever tally. Despite our recent sinking form, evidenced by our fall from grace in the stats, we still had a more than realistic chance of becoming the best Riyadh side ever. At the height of our season, we led the BURT in hits, extra-base hits and homers with a run differential of nigh on a 100, now we’re down to third or fourth in those categories with our run differential all the way down to -1. The loss of Umar “All-Star Jr” Doger and more recently the underperforming Romeu Tameiro had set us back, but we were still moving forward at a pace just over .500.

Terrance Kelly is in a funk as well, two more losses this week to bring his losing streak to three games. This week he got the hook in the fourth innings in both his starts, giving up a total of 14 runs. On the plus side though Nick Garner won his second consecutive start since he was promoted back to Riyadh and Kevin Morales won his 12th game of 2049 to draw level with Sean Gardner who had the most wins by a Red Crescent pitcher in a single season.

Juan Martinez’s two-run homer in Jerusalem, his 19th, equalled his career high for homers to go with career highs for RBI & Runs Scored he had already posted. Between himself, Diesel “All-Star” Dave and Masaki Sato they had hit 73 of Riyadh’s 138 long balls. Another of this year’s Rule 5 picks, Manchu Li, is hitting .258 in limited action and will now get a few chances to start at centre against lefties as Ivan Gulledge isn’t pulling up any trees with his bat as he learns the ways of the UMEBA.
