Joy turns into a losing week (2049-33)

As predicted, a losing week

Jul 21 @ Jerusalem L 2-5
Jul 23 v Baghdad W 2-1
Jul 24 v Baghdad W 4-3

Jul 25 v Baghdad L 2-4 (F/10)
Jul 26 @ Manama L 2-8
Jul 27 @ Manama L 2-3

In previous years a 2-4 record for the week had become the norm, but in 2049 a losing sim has become the exception. It doesn’t make it any more pleasant though. Riyadh have reached their 2047 tally of wins though with two months to spare and with the next win will equal their 2048 tally, just 16 more wins in their remaining 57 games in equal the Red Crescent’s highest ever tally. All that said though the stats are detreating, categories that have been 1st or 2nd in the BURT all season are slowly sinking to third or fourth best. Beirut who were well adrift are suddenly only one & a half games back while the Hebrew Hammers have suddenly opened up a four-game chasm. Only Baghdad seems comfortably set in a position that won’t affect the Red Crescents spectacular season.

Injuries are mounting too, we have 12 players, mainly pitchers, on the IL currently at all levels in the franchise and that’s having a downward affect on us too; we are struggling to fill rotation slots and once more have to consider reverting to 4-man rotations at various levels. It’s going to be a battle of attrition the rest of the way now, how much of our brilliant start to the season can we retain in the final two months of the season? The crowd are remaining though, the extra-innings loss to Beirut was watched by the third largest crowd ever at The People’s Palace meaning that all the five biggest home crowds have now been recorded in 2049; we may well end up risking the majority of our expected profit from this year in adding two or three thousand extra seats to The People’s Palace in the off-season. Now we just hope that our upsurge in form & attendance is not just a flash in the pan. Doubtless we shall end up with the proverbial egg on the face as the crowd’s nosedive in 2050, but at least we will have improved the resale value of the Stadium.

Back spasms are obviously the injury of the day as Romeu Tameiro now heads for the IL suffering from them and will probably be out until early September meaning that Nick Garner will return to Riyadh for another stint. Karel Beerens may well have been a better option, but as he’s on a minor league deal we’re a bit too near the salary cap to hand him a minimum salary deal. At least though Alex Corona has collected his first Riyadh win coming out of the ‘pen and getting five outs against Beirut in a 4-3 win. Issac Emmott didn’t do too badly during his spell at second base, but he drops back to the bench as Grady Fern reports fit after his back spasms and returns to his normal starting role. Ricardo Esparza has worked his way through his slump and is now on a five-game multi-hit streak where he has had 12 hits.
