Fifty wins up earlier than ever before
Jul 14 @ Baghdad W 4-3
Jul 15 @ Beirut L 3-4
Jul 16 @ Beirut W 4-2
Jul 17 @ Beirut L 5-8
Jul 19 @ Jerusalem L 2-4

Jul 20 @ Jerusalem W 5-3

Back to a full slate almost of six games as the season seriously digs into the second half and the win over Baghdad first up was the 50th win of 2049, the quickest the Red Crescents have ever reached that landmark (the previous best was mid-August in Riyadh’s inaugural season of 2046). With one game left of the 10-game road trip we are 5-4 on the trip and still on course for the franchise’s first ever winning season, que the 0-6 week to destroy the mood.

The fans had been excited when we picked up Terrance Kelly on a minor league deal and their faith is being justified now, two starts this week with 11.1 innings pitched in total and just three unearned runs surrendered. He picked up the win against the Hebrew Hammers, leaving him with a 2-1 record & an 1.90 ERA in his four UMEBA starts. Constantino Teixeira, the first pitcher that the Red Crescents have used as a full-time closer rather than a stopper, has now reached 20 saves from 23 attempts which makes him clearly the Riyadh all-time saves leader. Alex Corona though is not performing as well, in his nine bullpen outings since signing he is 0-2 with an ERA of 7.45, this might be his only season in Riyadh if he doesn’t sharpen up.

Grady Fern has been fighting through back spasms recently so he will get next week sitting on the bench while our Rule 5 pick from Jerusalem, Issac Emmott will get a few starts in his place at second, normally a shortstop he is competent on the other side of the middle infield as well. Meanwhile Riyadh has thought about replacing Juan Martinez in the outfield several times over the years, but he’s still there, on course to finish the season with a .300 batting average, close to 30 homers, a 100+ RBI season and over 3 WAR. Guess he might be in the outfield next year?
