Riyadh return to winning ways

Jun 16 @ Manama W 10-2
Jun 17 @ Baghdad L 4-6
Jun 18 @ Baghdad W 8-5
Jun 19 @ Baghdad L 1-2
Jun 20 v Jerusalem W 5-4
Jun 21 v Jerusalem L 1-4
Jun 22 v Jerusalem W 6-1

Last year we didn’t pass the 40-win mark until mid-August, so it shows how much we have we have improved to get our 40th win this season on June 20th. Four wins out of seven isn’t that consistent but it’s good to return to winning ways. We get a series in Athens and a series back home against this year’s kryptonite, Beirut, to turn June’s 9-11 run into a .500 or better team for the month. Oh, and the final game of four against our 2049 bitches Jerusalem; Leading 2-1 in this series, we have only lost four out of 16 meetings with the Hebrew Hammer this season. The loss against the Hebrew Hammers was watched by Riyadh's second largest crowd ever, 27,966, and we have already passed the 1,000,000 through the turnstiles this season, almost halfway to our biggest season total attendance. If it carries on like this I might have to consider a small increase in the number of seats available in the People's Palace.

Nick Garner lost his second start in two games since been promoted back to Riyadh, but was unlucky. He pitched nearly seven innings and just gave up two runs, both on solo homers, and picked up the loss after Riyadh could only score one run in support of him. Ricardo Quadrado picked up his third win on the trot, his eighth of the season and has a realistic chance of beating last year’s 10 wins. Constantino Teixeira while perhaps still not as dominant as I’d have hoped (tagged for three losses) he has 15 saves from 18 attempts, clearly the most ever by a Riyadh stopper and he’s also the Riyadh all-time saves leader now (such has been the poor quality of the Red Crescents)

The new batting lineup is still first in the BURT in hits (705), extra-base hits (244) and homers (93), doubtless one of the main factors behind Riyadh’s rise in the standings ( along with the Rotation’s ERA (.361) being the best in the BURT too) Anastasio Gullen is the only regular batting starter with a negative WAR at the moment and that’s only -0.3. Diesel “All-Star” Dave having cut his strikeouts down to only 76 so far while recording 17 homers, is our WAR leader with 2.2 so far.

Diesel Dave is having a great season. At 1.5 million he is a bargain.
