Red Boosters declare 6 months of mourning
The Riyadh fan group “The Red Boosters” have declared a spell of six months of mourning as the unthinkable happened. When Umar “All-Star Jr” Doger was taken from the dugout at the end of the sixth innings into the waiting ambulance, nothing mattered any more. The fact that he had won six out of 11 starts, the fact that he was on pace to win 17 games (the most by any Riyadh pitcher ever), the fact he had two Rookie of the Month awards in his first two months in UMEBA, the fact his 1.9 WAR was the first WAR ever gained by a Riyadh drafted player, none of it mattered. Doger wouldn’t pitch again until 2050, and who knew if he’d still be Doger?
The UMEBA’s #4 prospect had come out of the game against Baghdad a winner, but would it be his last ever? Many players come back unscathed from a torn rotator cuff, but many don’t. Grown men and women cried as the ambulance left, everyone kneeled and prayed, scribes threw away their pens and no-one wanted to report on this game or any other Red Crescent game anymore. The heart of Red Crescents had been ripped out; their best ever start to a season was washed away in a sea of tears. Was it really worth picking up a ball or bat ever again?
