Riyadh extends streak to eight

May 19 v Baghdad W 11-10 (F/13)
May 20 @ Beirut W 4-3

May 21 @ Beirut L 6-12
May 22 @ Beirut L 3-4

May 23 @ Beirut W 7-2
May 24 @ Jerusalem W 7-3
May 25 @ Jerusalem W 2-1

After our record equalling six wins on the trot last week, we added two more at the start of this week before Beirut finally snapped the streak. The Cedars really have the hex on us this season, we’ve only won three of 11 meetings despite their lowly fourth position in BURT, mind you I suppose we’ve only ever won 40 out of our 111 games with them. Thankfully we finished the week with a pair of games at Jerusalem who we have made our personal whipping boys for a change this year. We’re three games over .500 for May & six games over .500 overall, so with just six games left in the month we can finish no worse than .500 for the season! An absolute first for the Red Crescents. We have also now past the halfway point to last year's tally of wins before the end of the second month.

Umar “All-Star Jr” Doger claimed his fifth win in UMEBA as he went nearly seven innings against Beirut, giving up just a run. He also nailed his control for a change, not allowing a single walk while striking out seven batters. The bullpen has been in slightly disappointing form so far in 2049 but the rotation for once has taken up the slack. Signed on the eve of opening day 37-yr-old Kevin Morales has been a revelation for Riyadh, picking up six wins in his ten starts while new closer (in fact the first time the Red Crescents have ever gone with a straight closer) Constantino Teixeira is now just one save away from 10 for his first season with the team. Olando Sanchez last year was the only pitcher to reach 10 saves for Riyadh.

Three homers this week for Masaki Sato has shown he’s back in top form, currently on pace for career highs of 49 homers & 120 RBI. Unfortunately it might be his last year in Riyadh as he’s telling me at the moment that he wants to test free agency, it would be a blow if our greatest player to date left but we have a seemingly ready replacement in Port Elizabeth as former Rule 5 pick Umar Mutemi is currently mashing .366/.428/.629 in Triple-A with 11 homers & 34 RBI
