Longest ever win streak
Apr 7 v Baghdad L 3-8
Apr 8 @ Jerusalem W 10-4
Apr 9 @ Jerusalem W 7-5 (14)
Apr 10 @ Jerusalem W 7-1
Apr 11 v Manama W 9-7
Apr 12 v Manama W 8-3
Apr 13 v Manama W 5-1

Look at all that green ! SIX wins on the trot, our longest ever win streak beating the five straight games we won in September 2046. This week in 2048 we were getting excited too, we had a winning record (7-5) and were 2 games behind Beirut, but then an 0-6 week started the deep, fast dive to just 48 more wins. Now we’re top of the pile, hey #1, a game clear of the Pearls who we’ve just taken three games off of. Our first ever week on top of the BURT, with a run differential of +16, the best in the whole of the UMEBA.

That’s enough gloating though, no doubt an 0-6 week next week will plunge us back to our designated position. Don’t begrudge us our first dance of joy, we don’t get much chance to do anything like that. But for now, it’s all going fine, we’ve hit 22 homers, scored 68 runs, and posted 2.5 batting WAR, all best in the BURT. Can you all wait for next week’s sob story as we crash to the bottom once more.

The UMEBA’s #4 prospect and our first ever home-drafted player on the Red Crescents, Umar “All-Star Jr” Doger, has made his second start and picked up his first win, levelling his record at 1-1. He did though walk another two batters, but he also added four more strikeouts. A step towards fulfilling his promise, another week two winner was the newly-acquired Kevin Morales, the 37-yr-old went seven innings, gave up a run (his second of 2049, both off home runs) and struck out six batters without walking anyone. Four of the rotation have already won a game in 2049, as they’ve at least started to live up to the standard we thought was there. Following Morales capture we have had to release Ernesto Sousa and eat his $1.8 million 2049 salary. Sousa should have been a good pickup for us and he didn’t do terrible in his 127 games for us, but he only hit 13 homers and posted a -0.6 WAR. For a $1.8m first baseman we expected more and that cost him his job as we had to shed salary to get back under the cap.

Masaki Sato finally got back on track, hitting three homers in the week, driving in six runs. We now have four batters with four homers already in 2049. Bancroft boy Jose Leyva is the man, one of those with four dingers and leads the team with 11 RBI and 11 runs scored as well.
