The Rotation is set (2049-12)

The final cuts are the deepest

The rest of spring training was 50/50, we won eight games and lost eight games. The more worrying thing was we looked weaker the more the other teams added in their first team players. Suddenly a lot of our players that were looking good in early spring were busy turning out 0fer’s as the bats went silent. Let’s just hope that they can remember what to do when it all matters.

Just as camp broke up and everyone headed back to their teams, or Riyadh for the lucky 27, we signed what could be the final piece in the 2049 rotation jigsaw. Agreeing a one-year $5.5 million deal was 37-yr-old Kevin Morales. Taking a flyer on him at his age, but he played well for me in Louisville at the same time as Jaime Ramirez who had two decent years for the Red Crescents. Morales has just had three seasons in Las Vegas where he posted winning records the last two years with 341 K’s and 8.3 WAR for the three years. Worth a punt in our mind.

The 2049 rotation to start with will be:

#1 Romeu Tameiro Free agent signing, 1-1, 3.38 ERA in 4 spring starts. 16 K’s in 16 IP

#2 Jose Lima 2nd year in Riyadh, 9-11, 4.45 ERA last year, 1.9 WAR

#3 Umar Doger drafted first overall in the 2048 draft. 19 starts split between Double-A & Triple-A posting a 9-0 record and in all recorded 27 starts in baseball has just one loss on his record. He will be the first Riyadh drafted player to play for Red Crescents.

#4 Ricardo Quadrado fourth year in Riyadh, 24-20 record so far in 129 outings (51 starts).

#5 Kevin Morales New free agent signing, 6-3 record, 3.66 ERA in 44 appearances (14 starts) for Las Vegas last year in the BBA

It seems a far more solid rotation than we have had the last two years and we have options if they fail, leftie Rule 5 pick Angel Romero would have probably been in the mix if Morales hadn’t signed, consigning him to the 'pen and both Andres Hernandes & Karel Beerens who have been returned to Port Elizabeth were possibly unlucky not to stick in Riyadh.
