The All-Star break is no break from losses
Thankfully due to the All Star game there was only three games this week and even though we had our best two pitchers on the mound in two of them we went 0-3, shipping 20 more runs in the process. After the 12 wins in April, our win tally has been going down month by month, currently we have just the one win in July. We are now barely on target to equal last season’s poor total of 54 wins after the initial hope of being closer to our inaugural tally of 70 wins.
Our new replacement shortstop, Jonathon O’Reilly, didn’t pull up any trees in his opening week with us, but he was at least a solid .300 hitter and made all the routine plays with the glove. The same couldn’t be said for new outfielder Myeong-hwan Kim who managed 2-12 with a walk in his first three games as a Red Crescent. Diesel “All-Star” Dave has 117 strikeouts he also has the joint long-ball lead of the team along with the returning-to-form Masaki Sato, both of whom have sent 17 over the fences.
Ricardo Quadrado’s loss evened his record at 7-7, Jose Lima the only other Riyadh pitcher with as many as seven wins, Quadrado does lead the team however with 74 K’s. We’ve been trying to yank the starting pitchers quicker, given the number of losses they’ve been racking up, but I don’t really know if it’s worth it seeing as how the current bullpen arms can only boast six wins between them. Stopper Arturo Rivera (2-6, 4 saves) will be heading to the body of the ‘pen as we have signed 28-yr-old reliever Fernando Guerrero on a $1.3m deal, he will start next week as our new stopper.
20-yr-old Jouo Rovanpera and 22-yr-old Ivan Gulledge were the franchise's two representatives in the UMEBA Prospects game, Rovanpera hitting a solo homer in one of his two AB's. Living up to his nickname Diesel Dave was the Red Crescents only UMEBA All Star representative, his second UMEBA ASG appearance.
