Gut punch deflates Riyadh (2048-21)

A gut punch sees Riyadh hit the deck
It was a disastrous week for Riyadh, a real gut punch, as the Red Crescents returned to 0-6 weeks. In one fell swoop Riyadh slid back to the bottom of the pack, worse than anyone else, and blowing away all the progress that had been made in 2048. It didn’t help that Cairo caught the tail (the long tail) end of our rotation, a tail that now boasts just one win from the 19 starts the current 3, 4 & 5 rotation members have made. With only two starting pitchers showing any inclination to win it’ll be a hard struggle to regain any of that lost improvement.

Ricardo Quadrado blew any slight chance of a pitching award when his five-game unbeaten streak was blown out of the water by two straight losses, dropping his overall record to 6-4. Jake Garcia’s record has slipped out to 0-3 with Garcia shipping 15 runs in his last three starts. His problem is not the long ball, only one given up in those three games but the walk as he’s currently walking batters at a 6.2 per 9 rate. Bert Hackworth has fallen off the table completely, now boasting an 0-5 record in the year he was touted to be the Red Crescent’s ace. That has now cost him as Riyadh has burnt his last option, sending him down to Port Elizabeth to sort in out. In his place we have recalled veteran arm Sean Gardner who will now get the chance to add to his career 168 BBA & UMEBA starts. We are also limiting our starter’s pitch counts even more to get the game to the bullpen quicker as we still have the best bullpen ERA in the BURT.

Diesel “All-Star” Dave remains the team’s home run leader with 13 but Masaki Sato is closing on him with nine and Juan Martinez is one behind him, Martinez is also the clear walks leader having worked 21 free passes so far in 2048. Ernesto Sousa isn’t quite hitting those heights but he does lead the team in being walked intentionally five times in his time with us.
