Riyadh win just two out of six games in second straight losing week
The Red Crescents might have won the first series in Jerusalem 2-1 but a 0-4 loss in Riyadh at the start of this week meant that the Hebrew Hammers have won the return series 3-1 at the People’s Palace. The 2-5 week gives Riyadh an 11-14 record on the month and with three games left in April, they can still post a .500 month.
Bert Hackworth started the season on the IL with a finger blister and hasn’t come back well, two starts this week saw him tagged with two more losses even though his ERA is now down to 6.33. To give him a chance to gather his thoughts he moves into the long man role and newbie Jake Garcia will make his first start next week, in eight appearances from the bullpen he has pitched 10 innings, allowing three runs. Another new pitcher in the ‘Pen is Arturo Rivera who after 12 appearances is 0-1 with a save and an 1.10 ERA. He has allowed two runs in 16 IP, both from long balls.
Masaki Sato still has to up his game to match his previous two seasons, but at least he added his third homer of 2048 this week, new DH Ernesto Sousa is starting to settle, he’s currently on a four-game hitting streak and in the final game of the week he hit his first homer for the Red Crescents, a three-run effort. Diesel “All-Star” Dave has picked up a few more hits and has added his 10th homer in the Riyadh uniform. His ten homers are the joint best in the UMEBA, his 25 RBI also leads the league, but unfortunately, so does his 33 strikeouts.
The Triple-A Port Elizabeth are still going well, after 20 games of the 2048 season they are second in the African Baseball Alliance with a 12-8 record. 23-yr-old starter Ashley Agar was released at the end of 2047 because the club couldn’t afford the $400K he asked for and he went on to sign a minor league deal with Manama. The Pearls released him after just a month and Riyadh quickly stepped in to offer him $10k to sign a minor league deal back with us. The Windies are glad he did as he’s now 2-1 with a 2.39 ERA in his first four starts. A shortage of Homers in Port Elizabeth, but 29-yr-old outfielder LuCio Becerra has three and 12 RBI.
Santiago are still struggling, 6-12 and bottom of the South American Baseball League while South Guam is tucked away middle of the Far East Baseball League with a 5-6 record so far in 2048
