Five losses means the glory is short lived
The joy of a wild card slot didn’t last long, only two wins in seven games this week saw to that. There was one very bright spot though as on the Friday we broke our attendance record at the People’s Palace, 27,947 turned up to see our game against Beirut, 13 more than the previous high set on Opening Day last year against Manama.
Diesel “All-Star” Dave had apparently forgotten how to hit, going 1-19 doing the week, but the one hit reminded us what we were missing as it was a double driving in two runs. Masaki Sato on the other hand opened his 2048 long ball account, banking a pair of 2-run homers during the week. We are still hitting though far better than last year with six of the regular starters boasting a batting average over .290.
The pitching is where we really do need to shape up as always. Bancroft boy Jose Lima suffered his first loss of 2048, giving up five runs including two homers in his seven innings pitched. Nick Garner though has been sent to Port Elizabeth, in his four starts so far he has coughed up 16 runs and we thought we’ll see how he can adjust that in Triple-A. In his place comes Raymond Ortiz, off a stint on waivers, to show us he’s still worth a roster slot. Sean Gardner has cleared waivers too and been sent to Port Elizabeth, how long his stay there will be pretty much depends on the bullpen guys up here in Riyadh. Currently they’re doing ok, they still have the second best bullpen ERA in the BURT (3.15), any noticeable downgrades there could well see Gardner promoted back up in their place.
