.Shocking week completely ruins May for Riyadh
.
0-6 ? 0-6 ??. After all the improvements the Red Crescents had made in May the final week drove them right back to where they started. They were three games over .500 for the month and had only conceded double-digit runs twice all season. This one week left them two games below .500 at the end of May, they conceded double-digit runs in two games, were thrashed by large margins four times and failed to score more than a run in three consecutive games. Thankfully they were all away so not many of our fans were there to boo them off the field, in 30 away games we have only managed six wins this season.

We made changes to the outfield but it was the incoming players that at least showed some hitting, Donnie Peacock went 6-11 and scored four times (out of only 11 runs we scored all week !). The two expensive pitchers we brought in to improve our rotation, Juan Rodriguez & Andresa Pires, are now sporting 1-6 & 1-5 records while since being restored to the rotation Alejando Soto has gone from 2-0 to 2-2. He has headed for the waiver wire and Fraser Pond, a pitcher I gave a UMEBA debut to with the Chariot Archers, has been promoted from Port Elizabeth and will make his Riyadh debut next week.

Several more players formed an orderly line outside my office to tell me that they too couldn’t possibly face playing for Riyadh again, once more it was noted that they were all the players who if they performed themselves wouldn’t have been in a losing side. Once more the Director of Sand Holes escorted them to the car park and got them to fill the holes, up to the necks, that he had just dug. All I can say is that I hope that our camels are careful where they do their dumping & watering.

I’m not sure what more I can do this season? From Cairo’s recent form it appears that we have locked up the #1 draft pick already, but that’s not where I want to be. Our haul of 70 wins in our inaugural season I felt gave us the perfect platform with our additions to mount a bid to end 2047 at .500 or better. That has proved sadly way off the mark and we’ll be lucky to break the 50-win plane at this rate.
