A good kicking
After all the recent good weeks, we spent this week being kicked from pillar to post by the big boys. I’m probably being a bit harsh there, but it felt like it. Mumbai scored 11 against us to complete their sweep of us and BURT leaders, the Hebrew Hammers, scored 11 against us twice in their four game series in Jerusalem. Other than those thrashings the rest of the week went pretty much as we had been going along previously. We lost two more games, one by a single run, and, perhaps the most hurtful a 1-5 defeat by Baghdad. That loss, in the final game of the week, kept us four games behind them. Our two wins were both by a single run, one against Jerusalem and the other against Baghdad.
It was a miserable time for our middle infielders, Leonardo Rincon and Rodrigo Rios. Rios has been hitting .070 in his last 17 games while Rincon has only hit .037 in the last eight games. Those performances have now cost the pair of them their Riyadh roster spots, and both are now on waivers. Coming into Riyadh in their places are Orlando Aguilar and Dave Thomas, both just signed on as minor league free agents. Aguilar will be the starting 2B going forward while Thomas will be the utility infield now, Zach Swanson will remain as the starting shortstop for the time being, he too has been told that his place is under threat unless he bucks his ideas up. Freddy McCord isn’t smiling any more either after having just two hits in his last 12 games. It appears, in fact, that the only player with recent real form is reliever Gustavo Munoz who has one save and a 0.54 ERA in his last 12 games.
