Player Profile: Luis Gracia (2046-14)
Player Profile #1 : Luis Gracia
40-yr-old lefty pitcher Luis Gracia’s pro career started way, way back in 2022 when he was signed as a minor league free agent at just 16-yrs-old by the Huntsville Phantoms (now the Chicago Black Sox) out of the Dominican Republic. The Phantoms never gave him a chance and flipped him to California (now Sacramento) a year later. The Crusaders nurtured him and at 22 he made his BBA debut in 2028 as the BBA’s #22 prospect. His career from there was stellar and will possibly see him eventually end up in the Hall of Fame. He went on to play 18 seasons, nearly all with California / Sacramento, just a brief season & a half with Mexico City as his BBA career wound down. He did however play the final half season of his BBA career back in Sacramento though. During that career he started 572 games on the mound, winning 252 games with a career 3.49 ERA. In over 3,680 innings pitched he struckout 2,786 batters while walking just 867. He pitched 27 complete games but only ever pitched four shutouts. His career WHIP in the BBA was 1.17 and he produced 85.1 WAR in his time there. He also was very proud to represent the Dominican Republic three times in the World Cup of Baseball, picking up Championship Rings there in 2031 & 2032. Despite all that Gracia gained very few awards during such a long career; he picked up a Landis Ring in 2035, went to his first ever All-Star game in 2036 and then only ever was voted on to the ASG roster in 2038, ’41 & ’43. As he entered his twilight days, he also picked up a second place in the Steve Nebraska Golden Arm Award (2040) and a third place (2038).
Unwanted by the BBA any more he headed for the UMEBA in 2046 and caught on with the expansionist Riyadh Red Crescents on a one-year deal. In deference to his vast experience, they handed him the ball on their first ever Opening Day. Unfortunately, it didn’t go as well as he hoped. Facing Manama Pearls who had won the Burt pennant the season before with 102 wins, he lasted just 4.1 innings as he gave up seven hits and five runs. The Red Crescents couldn’t bail him out and they went on to lose their first ever game 5-8. Now in the #2 slot in the rotation he has seven starts for Riyadh and sports a 3-1 record with an ERA of 3.43. He has 11 strikeouts and four walks with a WHIP of 1.17, exactly matching his long BBA career WHIP. Despite being the oldest player in the UMEBA and relying on his slider, the one decent pitch he still throws (he has a fading fastball & changeup) he has already penned a one-year extension to his contract as his glorious career will continue in to 2047 at least.

If Luis Gracia does not walk into the HOF on the first ballot there is something wrong with us.
