On the 9th of May, starting pitcher Khaleel bin Zubair threw 4 1/3 innings of mid before his elbow gave in on him. The result - a torn flexor tendon, knocking him out for not only this season but a chunk of 2065 as well. Despite not being at the top of the rotation, bin Zubair has been a staple in the Cairo staff for five seasons now. This past offseason, he received a two year extension for $6,500,000 per season. "I hate not being able to go out and pitch right now, I just want to be there for the team," bin Zubair told the press about the injury days later.

So what's next for the Pharaohs? Top prospect Joel Demiras (#14 overall via OSA) has been called up to replace bin Zubair. Demiras, the 10th overall pick in the 2062 draft, is known for his gigantic stature at 6'11 and high velocity. His fastball is still a little raw but if it fulfills its potential, he could become a great strikeout pitcher in the GBC. When reached for comments on his debut, Demiras said, "I hate how this is how I get thrust into the majors, but I finally get the opportunity to start in front of Pharaoh fans globally.

Cairo is currently 21-21 and half a game out of the wild card spot.
