Blair 'Breezy' Peyton has decided to sign a two-year extension for $16M a season. This brings his commitment to the Pharaohs through the end of the 2061 season. He has little financial ambition and agreed to a $2M cut in pay in exchange for a pyramid to be built for him at the complex at Giza. Peyton, according to Meet The Team, is already the team's career leader in hits with 1305. This includes six straight seasons as the league-leader in hits with totals of 214, 209, 234, 219, 218, and 211. He led the GBC with a 7.9 WAR last season. He also had a career-high & league-leading 66 stolen bases. Even so, he was snubbed in VIP-voting. "He's only been elected as an All Star once, so I don't see what all the hoopla is about him," one GM said.

Peyton also leads Cairo with 832 career games. It's possible that could jump by 450 games through 2061. Will he re-sign again at that time? A top official at Cairo said he would do everything possible to keep him with the Pharaohs. "He is a Pharaoh, he is the Pharaoh." The city has not been as excited about any professional athlete since the beloved footballer Mohamed Salah. Re-signing Peyton and keeping him in Egypt seems to be the thing to do. I don't know who signed him to his current 2-year $18M/year contract, but that cramped the team's budget. It was 40% of the salary cap. With the additional of $5M to the cap starting in 2059, that gives a little breathing room. Peyton's number 32 has basically already been retired--maybe the first number to be retired while the player is active? And there's little doubt he will enter the Pharaoh's Hall of Fame, which currently consists only of long-dead rulers of an ancient empire.

I never GMed a GBC team but I have to imagine tying up that much payroll is worth it for a 8 WAR player.
