I don't even know when I'm supposed to start writing team news and whether I'll get credit for this. But it's the off-season in the GBC. Just like everybody's favorite topic to talk about is themselves, my next favorite is the Cairo Pharaohs. I am even getting used to spelling that word correctly. No, it is not Pharoahs, just keep the finger on the A and put it both before and after the R. We've had the Pharaoh Moans, the Nile Natterings, the Giza Gab, the Cairo Report, the Cairo Chronicles, the Cairo Chronicle, and now introducing the Pharaoh Phollies. Phollies as in Follies. As in Physics is phun (thank you, high school physics teacher).

It's supremely cool that this Pharaoh, meaning me, call me JR, has inherited the Cairo team. My hometown Memphis is named after the ancient capital Memphis, Egypt, and I've already moved the team's business offices to that city just down the river from Cairo, I should say up the river, because even tho your tracing your finger south on the map your boat is going up the Nile.

Much like my esteemed predecessor, Dan Gladden, we find the team in a little disarray. It's Arbitration Day and half the minor leaguers want to walk. They all say they're impossible to re-sign. We'll see, Like Napoleon, the Conqueror of Cairo said, impossible is not in my vocabulary. However, we have hedged our bets and signed, that is, offered contracts to, almost as many outgoing guys, or guys who say they're headed out.

I've done this, by the way, by exporting through Dan's game account, whose password was easy to crack. Let's say it wasn't-- uh, we didn't need the Rosetta Stone. It wasn't football or hockey or golf or bowling or nba; what other sportsy password was left?

So, what are the hot items? Since it's Saturday and the wife is out of town, expect more TN (that's team news, not Tennessee), to follow.
