Cairo Chronicles 2057.03: Peyton Staying in Cairo

One of GM Brandon Slouck's first orders of business was locking up superstar CF Blair Peyton.

"I wasn't going to the one to let him walk and be signed by a BBA team," the GM said to the press.

"I know he takes up a lot of cap but I couldn't let him walk right after getting here. He's a special player who expressed wanted to be here so we had to keep him."

Peyton is without a doubt the best CF in the GBC and one of it's top players. A 2 time MVP runner up, he's routinely been a 7+ WAR player since his 2nd year in the league and has a career OPS+ and wRC+ over 120. He has some of the best bat to ball skills in the GBC along with a good amount of stolen bases (at a good success rate) and elite defense. He's won the CF Great Glove Award the last 2 seasons.

While it's only a 2 year deal, the biggest issue with the contract is that it takes up 40% of the cap. Luckily for Cairo, there isn't really anyone else on the books.

"I'm confident we can build a contender around him. We have some prospects that are close. Unfortunately, some of their major league clocks have been started before my time here even though they weren't ready. But they aren't far off. And I think we can find talent that wants to be here. I hope we can give him a reason to stay here again after 2059."
