August continues to be a great month for the Pharaohs baseball club. Another 5-1 week gives Cairo a record of 11-4 for the month, already equaling their win total from July. Newly acquired Jose Rodriguez struggled through his first week with the club but he will be given an opportunity to get comfortable as he tries to contribute. Ramiro Hernandez helped give Rodriguez some time by slugging 4 HR this week.
The team’s 10-2 stretch over the last two weeks has changed the landscape in the GBC a bit. Two weeks ago, the Pharaohs were tied with London for 2nd place 9 games out of 1st. After this recent run, Cairo sits alone in 2nd, only 5 games back of league leader Athens, and 4 games ahead of London. There are still six weeks remaining in the season, so there is still time for anything to happen. The August version of the ball club certainly looks like a group intent on ending the playoff drought in Cairo.
