The Pharaohs today announced what is expected to be their last off-season acquisition. Starting pitcher Drees Geestman inked a three year deal worth $5.0 million per season with no options. After being rule 5 drafted, he broke in with Charm City in 2037 but appeared in only three games before being returned to Omaha. Omaha subsequently traded him to Montreal where he pitched for six years recording 53 wins and 44 losses. In 2043 he was traded to Las Vegas who immediately extended him. In his four years with the hustlers he had 31 wins and 39 losses. Las Vegas released him this past October. El Paso of the BBA was reportedly also trying to sign Geestman, but he chose the three-year deal with the Pharaohs.

General Manager Joe Geoghegan seemed happy to get Geestman despite some reservations. His statement was as follows:

“We need help in the rotation and Geestman seemed the best option. We may be paying him too much for too long, but we’ll see how it goes. I was especially attracted by the fact that he is considered a leader and team captain. That plus he works hard and is very loyal. He is also admired by fans, and he may help sell a few more tickets”

Geestman’s contract puts Cairo over its budget for the year, so the team will eat into its cash reserve to meet payroll. Selling tickets therefore matters very much.

Meanwhile, Hitting Coach Endale Mungu of the Agana Admirals (A) has been promoted to take over that role with the Pharaohs. Mungu is considered an excellent hitting instructor. A search is underway to hire a new hitting coach for Agana,
