Pharaoh Moans (2046-01): UMEBA Baseball Back in Cairo, Woody Donahue New GM

CAIRO — Reporters were flocking to Cairo today with the announcement that the UMEBA would be expanding to include two additional teams, including one in Cairo. Baseball will return to the Egyptian capital for the first time since the Chariot Archers dissolved after the 2043 season.

The new team was unveiled as the “Pharaohs”, and the new GM Woody Donahue met with press this morning.

“I’m excited for this opportunity,” Donahue said about his new role, “but the most exciting thing is to have UMEBA baseball back here in Cairo.”

It is the first GM position for the 33-year-old native of Germany.

“Baseball runs in my veins,” he told the press. “When I was a kid, my folks would drive me down to Munich every Brauers homestand for a game. When the EBA dissolved, I started following the UMEBA. And now I’m here. I’m a fan just like all of you. The only difference is, they give me the schwag for free.”

Donahue then pulled out a dark blue cap with a script 'C' on it and put it on. “You guys can’t get one of these yet,” he said with a smile.

When asked what his first order of business would be as GM, he answered, “The plan is to continue the legacy of UMEBA baseball here in Cairo. We had some pretty good success here not too long ago. And we plan on getting back there.”

“We’ll sign some good players, pick well in the draft, and build up our team. But I expect us to be a competitive team next year.”

Nice to have Cairo back in the league - it was one of the signature franchises in the early years, and promises to be one again. It’s no Mumbai, of course (former Metro Stars GM here), but it’s outstanding to have it back.

Good luck! Really glad to see the extra teams. It will be fun next year, most important thing is to set yourself up to be really good in a couple of years, but if you can manage that by next year, so much the better!

Coming up will be the Rule 5 draft. You might be able to fill out your team with some of those picks. I know that I will not be able to protect everybody that I would like to in that.

Thanks Matt, I've been playing with different colors to better match the logo created by Mike, but I may take you up on that.

I have a question though, do new jerseys have to be imported into the game by you? I've noticed the jersey functions are all disabled for me, and I wasn't sure whether that was by design.

Yea, Matt has to import all the uniforms but you can normally add the logo yourself.

Looking forward to Cairo back in again, but will miss my old Chariot Archers. I don’t think Matt ever liked my updated logo for them, he preferred the Roman version lol.

Watching the Bauers you will have seen me on the dugout steps when my London Bishops were in town lol
