It was a busy week for the Pharaohs with no off day in the midst of a stretch that sees Cairo playing on 12 consecutive days. Cairo dropped the first series of the week to Moscow, but bounced back to take the second series against the London Monarchs before dropping the first game of a three game series with Jerusalem resulting in a 4 and 3 week. The week that was improves the team record to 36 wins and 22 losses, good for first place in the division, 7 games up on Buenos Aires. Offensively, Cairo was led by Boulus bin Altair who had 7 hits, 2 home runs and 5 RBIs. Cairo pitcher Ragnvard Lamm had an outstanding month of May and was named the number 1 GBC pitcher. Over the course of the month Lamm worked 43 innings striking out 29 and holding opponents to a mere .186 average. Lamm made 6 starts during the month and improved his season record to 6-0 with an ERA of 2.16. Looking ahead, Cairo will complete a 3 game series with Jerusalem, followed by a series with Johannesburg and then will finally play the first of three against Athens.
Moscow 2 - Cairo 1 - It was a low scoring affair at Pyramid Park in which the fans were treated to a pitchers duel. Both teams starters pitched 7 innings with Cairo's Bani Marita surrendering 2 runs on just 4 hits. Unfortunately for Marita, he was tagged with the loss as the Cairo offense was not able to provide enough run support for the team to be victorious. A wild pitch and a double was all the offense Moscow needed to push 2 runs across the board in the 7th inning and secure the victory in this one.
Moscow 3 - Cairo 2 - It was another tight game between the Bears and the Pharaohs that again saw Cairo dropping a game by 1 run guaranteeing the series win for Moscow. The Cairo offense was only able to muster 7 hits scoring 1 in the fourth and one in the seventh. Moscow's victory gave them 6 straight wins and their club is riding high going into the final game of the series. The Thunder Bears offense was led by Ryobe Watanabe who hit a 2 run home run in the top of the third inning securing the victory. Cairo will look to bounce back in game three of the series and salvage at least one game from the last place Thunder Bears.
Cairo 7 - Moscow 6 - It was yet another 1 run game between Cairo and Moscow, this time seeing Cairo come out on top. In a series in which Cairo struggled to score, the 7 runs produced by Cairo was a real offensive outbreak. Cairo thrived in the late innings, scoring 5 runs in the final two frames to secure the come from behind victory. Dima Rozinov was the walk-off hero with a game winning line drive double that drove in 2 allowing Cairo to storm the field and celebrate the win in dramatic fashion. Traditionally Rozinov has contributed with his glove defensively at SS as an anchor to the tight Cairo defence but fans were more then pleased with this offensive bonus. Enrique Serrano started the ballgame for the Pharaohs and he had a respectable outing, pitching into the sixth allowing just 3 runs on 7 hits.
Cairo 3 - London 1 - It took 12 innings to decide this one but ultimately Cairo was able to pull this one out. Jorge Carmona contributed the game winning RBI with a solo home run in the 12th inning. Ragnvard Lamm pitched a gem allowing just 1 run on 3 hits over 8 innings of work. Lamm continues to be an excellent starter for the Pharoahs and has not yet lost a decision this season. Any game Lamm starts for Cairo, the team knows they have a strong chance of winning with how effective he has been over the course of the season.
Cairo 4 - London 2 - Cairo got yet another well pitched game allowing just 2 runs and holding the Monarchs to just 4 hits. Despite the solid pitching performance, this was a close game throughout with the game tied until Cairo was able to breakthrough offensively in the 8th inning. Blair 'Breezy' Peyton cranked a RBI triple in the top of the 8th giving the Pharaohs the lead for good. Cairo looks to take the final game of the series tomorrow to complete the sweep, but independent of the result clinched the series win with the victory in game two.
Cairo 4 - London 3 - Cairo was able to complete the sweep of London with a four to three victory. Bani Marita pitched into the 7th inning allowing just 3 runs and improved his ERA to 2.71 on the year. Dima Rozinov provided the clutch hit in the sixth with a 2-run single to clinch the game for Cairo. Despite London outhitting Cairo 11 to 5, the sloppy defence of the Monarchs (2 errors) was something Cairo was able to capitalize on in this game. The excellent Cairo defence was able to limit the damage allowing just single runs in the 4th, 5th and 7th innings for London.
Jerusalem 6 - Cairo 4 - Cairo welcomed the Hebrew Hammers into town in a battle of two first place GBC teams. The early innings were tight, with Cairo securing a slim 1 run lead in the fifth. However, the floodgates opened for Jerusalem in the 7th as they were able to score 5 in the inning which proved to be all that was needed to put the Pharaohs away. Tsuyoshi Kobayashi torched Cairo pitching going 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles scoring twice and driving in two. Cairo reliever Brian Ioneki struggled allowing four runs in the seventh on four hits and 2 walks. Ioneki was tagged with the loss as Cairo was unable to rally back despite scoring 3 runs in the final two innings. Cairo looks to bonce back in the remainder of this series against a very strong Jerusalem team.

This sim could've gone either way with those close games. Missed a big sim or a really bad one.
