2057 Brisas Watch - Sim #8 review

The Week in Review
Owing to other commitments, it's a shorter programme of Brisas Watch this week, but that doesn't stop the action as the Brisas continue to make noise at the top of the GBC. After a slight slump over recent weeks, they put together a big week including a sweep of the fellow post-season contending Sharks, a series that sees Buenos Aires move to the top of the division. It’s still too close to call at the top, with the Brisas just one game ahead of the Sharks, and Jerusalem just a half game back.

Through the offensive issues, two players have stood out at the top of the order in home-run leaders Andrew MacColl and Cesar Torres. Both have proven extremely reliable, and when #2 hitter Gary Robertson is playing at his best, the top of the order has proven to be very productive. Unfortunately, the rest of the order continues to be patchy, though outfielder Grant Prince did hit over .400 this week as he tries to establish himself on the roster.

The other side of the ball continues to rank among the best in the GBC, and indeed closer Jose Castro leads the league in saves with 18, seven ahead of his closest rival. With a 1.93 ERA, he is making a big case for top reliever in the GBC.

Roster News
There was also some transaction news this week, with the arrival of some offensive help for the Brisas in the form of Japanese infielder Sosa Seki. Seki had previously spent most of his career in the GBC, putting up over 180 home runs in six seasons with Athens, before embarking on a middling BBA stint, firstly with Yellow Springs in 2053, before an unsuccessful year in Valencia the following year.

Seki has spent the subsequent seasons in the wilderness, before the Buenos Aires GM picked up the phone to address his offensive power issues. Seki brings big left-handed power, and GM Swain had no hesitation giving him a somewhat large 1-year $4 million deal to see the out the year as the Brisas look to contend for the post-season.

Swain now has to make room for Seki on the roster, and all signs point to the odd man out being off-season arrival Mark Moon. Swain is believed to be DFA-ing the 34 year-old, as well as touting him to other GBC GMs at a cut price. Moon arrived with much fanfare, with Swain in particular being very vocal about his skillset. He has however seemingly admitted defeat for now, and the designated hitter’s Brisas future now looks increasingly uncertain.

I'm a big fan of Grant Prince. He was part of my first Rule V class, and I ended up having to make a tough call between him and Nick Sneddon, who has been probably equivalent to Prince in limited time.
