2057 Brisas Watch - Sim #6 review

BUA @ JER
Game 1 – BUA 7 JER 8 (11)
Buenos Aires start the week by giving up a 6-2 lead late on, as well as giving up a further tying run in the 9th after a Roy MacGugan home run, one of three on the day for the designated hitter, a day where he also scored a single and walked twice. Juan Guzman put some shaky outings behind him with a solid 5.1 innings of 2-run ball. Ultimately it was reliever Ostoja Omeragic who gave up the walk-off RBI double in the 11th to lose the game.

Game 2 – BUA 3 JER 2
Mark Moon’s 2-run home run makes his only hit of the day count as the Brisas come from behind to win over the Hebrew Hammers. Starter Richard Balgera continues to impress, giving up just one run in 5.1 innings – his ERA is now down to 3.89.

Game 3 – BUA 1 JER 4
The Brisas fail to convert their 12-7 hitting advantage in a disappointing series loss. Gary Robertson, Andrew MacColl and Isacco Aglietti all fail to bring a run home on multi-hit days. Rookie starter Ferede Keohi gives up all four runs in 4.2 innings of ball, though his ERA still remains sub-3.50 on the year.

BUA @ SAO
Game 1 – BUA 0 SAO 1
Not one for fans of offense to kick off the South American rivalry series. Starter Enrique Lopez leaves the game in the 3rd inning with a back injury, though this is later diagnosed as tightness and shouldn’t impact him long-term. The only run of the game is given up in the 8th by You-cheng Hang, a solo home run.

Game 2 – BUA 5 SAO 4 (10)

The Brisas once again give up a late lead to go to extra innings, though this time it’s Buenos Aires who emerge victorious. Andrew MacColl had earlier given them the lead with a 3-run homer, his 4th home run of the season. In the end it was OF Grant Prince who gave the Brisas the lead in extras with his 2nd home run of the season.

Game 3 – BUA 2 SAO 1 (11)
Another game goes to extras, and yet another late lead given up by Buenos Aires to get there. Juan Guzman is certainly upping his game, as he goes 7.0 innings of 1-hit ball. A pivotal drop by Pilots’ shortstop Dick van Capelle on a Jose Carlos hit allows Isacco Aglietti to come up in the 11th with 1-out and bases loaded – he would go on to fly out to left, with Gary Robertson tagging up to bring home the winning run for Buenos Aires.

The Week in Review
The Brisas split for the second week in a row, as they lose a little bit of ground to the leaders Sydney. The offensive struggles are really starting to hit hard now across the team – for the month of May, team OPS is the worst in the league, 50 points behind the next team. They are not even breaking the .300 OBP barrier. The fact that the team continue to contend at the top of the GBC with this offense is quite frankly ridiculous.

On the flipside, the pitching continues to hold among the best in the league – they are also keeping opposing offenses to a sub-.300 OBP and opposing OPS is also below .700, in what is surely an attempt at some canny Mr Incredible meme (do memes still exist in 2057? How many Incredibles spinoffs have there even been in the subsequent 40 years?)

There could be a case for some regression occurring on the offensive side, as the likes of Enrique Hernandez seem to be cooling off after their hot starts. Meanwhile for fellow off-season arrival Mark Moon, it feels like he may never get hot at all. Even against righties, he is finding himself well below league average, and with over 100 PAs under his belt by now, he may find himself losing playing time.
