The GBC’s Buenos Aires Brisas have today announced the hire of Irishman Conor Swain to be their new General Manager. He assumes the role immediately, jumping straight into a race where the Brisas look to make their first post-season since their 2052 GBC Championship title. Since then, they have gone 276-327, including their 60-57 record up to this point of the 2056 season.

Swain was in attendance for the Brisas’ most recent series in Sao Paulo, where they achieved a 2-1 series win over the Pilots. While he may be a new face to the GBC/BBA scene, he is excited to get started, and isn’t daunted by the task that’s ahead of him.

“First and foremost, our aim has to be the Championship. We’re still right in the fight, there is no bleeding-in period for me at the start of this job. We have to hit the ground running in the midst of this post-season battle. It’s a bit of a thrill in all honesty, it’s why we get up in the morning!”

It’s a big season for the Brisas, who have a number of players set to hit Free Agency at the end of the season, headlined by their #2 starter Marvin Winston. The former Sacramento Mad Pope signed a 1-year $2.4 million deal in the off-season with the Brisas, and currently leads the team in pitcher WAR (3.6), wins (10) and IP (157.0). Swain was tight-lipped on his plans for any extension, but was full of praise for Winston.

“There are a lot of decisions to be made, and I have to analyze our staff to make sure that we are in the best position to consistently challenge for the GBC title going forward given the budget rules. Marvin is a guy who has played at the very top, he’s playing at an elite level this season. He understands the situation, he’s been there and done it, he’s all-in on helping this team win now.”

What of the upcoming trade deadline?

“There’s some room for moves, but I’ll leave the speculation to you!” he said with a smile.
