Kuwait City has started to play a bit better, winning 7 of the last 9 games, however, they haven’t made much ground in the tough BURT, still sitting 3 games back of leaders, Manama Pearls. Inconsistencies among the Alhafr pitchers keep them from compiling a long win streak. César Castro was pegged to become a top starting pitcher in the BURT, but the plan has not played out as hoped. Still, he should be a valuable piece in the struggling bullpen should GM Chad Nason give orders to move him out of the rotation. For now, Nason has announced Axel Goulding will return to the closer’s role, stating recently signed RHP Jeff Whitney has blown too many opportunities.

“We signed Whitney to strengthen our bullpen, yet we’re only halfway through May and he’s lost 5 games. The loss to Istanbul on Friday was the final straw. We’ll give Axel another shot, but we may just see a closer by committee type situation. We can only hope this tweak works as well as sending Knuds to the 3 hole. Sliding in between Virgil Shafer and Weaver Ripley has really allowed him to get the pitches he wants to see and send them to the seats.”

Braams took home BURT player of the week honors, batting .360 with 8 RBI last week. Drew Hair dropped down to fifth in the lineup and continues to struggle. Hopefully Hair and the Alhafr can gain some ground after facing two weaker team this upcoming week in Libyan Generals and Mumbai Metro Stars.
