New Athens GM Embarks on His Odyssey

It is April 1st, 8am. The ballpark is occupied only by groundskeepers, security guards, and new GM Jocko Jones, who sits in an executive suite, surveying his new domain. He sits in a padded set, sipping on his coffee. It is straight black, unlike the white mug which holds it. He sips, the steam rising from his mug, which blends into the fading morning mist in the distance. Today is a big day. Opening Day. His first Opening Day since taking the reins for the Fighting Centaurs.

He reads over player reports, idly perusing his current roster, as he takes another sip. He turns the page, and looks upon the scouting report for Global Baseball Consortium veteran Nicolai Reshetkov. A solid player, good for 130+ hits and 20+ home runs a season. He's also a free agent after this season, which makes Jocko frown. Sure, he's old, but anytime you see a .300 hitter leave your team, it'll hurt. Hurt real bad. He turns the page to see the report for team home run leader Joo-ill Paek, already with 2 home runs(this has not come to pass yet). He smiles, pleased with the thought that an extension should be easy enough to negotiate with a player entering his prime.

Pitchers Max Dawe and Robby Mahoney also grab his attention. Dawe, a mainstay in AAA for the better part of 7 years, is finally out in the top level of GBC and has shown his chops as a starting pitcher. At least 2 years left on his contract, he should be easy enough to re-sign. Mahoney, the top-level closer who happens to have the highest paying contract for a pitcher on the team, is set to stick around for a couple more years. Knowing he has two anchors on both sides of the mound, he takes a contented sip of his coffee. Looking to his watch, it's already 11:30am. My how time has flown. He rises, stretches, and strolls to his office.

Let Opening Day begin.
