Athens GM Breaks Offseason Silence

As it turns out, GMs have to talk to the media. Odd.

Anyways, with the regular season imminent, it's time for a press release.

During the limited offseason, Athens used their free money on a variety of things

The first action was to max out the development budget. Give the minor leaguers nutritious meals, or something like that.

After making sure the minor league teams could afford hotels, it was time to sign players for the major league team. Generally speaking, the goal was to sign washed up BBA players. Players that still had something left.

Players like Aaron Anderson, Du Wu, and Jose Diaz all fit the bill. Sure, they were old, washed up, injury prone, or all 3... but they could still play.

Bryce Lidstone was brought in as a glove-only shortstop, to field and at least hold a bat when he goes up to the plate.

And now... it's opening day. Time for the weirdest part of the team...

The pitching staff. It's weird alright. A 3-man rotation, with a 12 man bullpen. So what's the strategy? It's... kinda simple.

The starters are nothing more than openers. Pitch an inning, and give it to the bullpen. After that, it's all chaos. Sure, there's late inning and high leverage guys, but the bullpen will eat 8 innings of every single baseball game Athens plays. Will it work? That remains to be seen.
