Well, the Fighting Centaurs season ended without a trip to the playoffs, but 87 wins is still nothing to sneeze at, so let’s at least acknowledge some of the fine individual performances of 2053…
MVP: Quinn Greene- Of course. 55 homers, 135 RBIs, 7.6 WAR. Signed an extension that will keep him in the GBA for at least two more years; it may be that we will never know what he could have accomplished in the Brewster.
PITCHER OF THE YEAR: Steffan Gimseng- No Centaur starter (or reliever for that matter) really stood out; Gimseng wins pretty much by default. 13-10, 3.57 is kind of meh, but the other options were even meh-er. A free agent this fall; it will be interesting to see what happens with him.
ROOKIE OF THE YEAR: Harry Kivlehan: He only had 47 major league ABs before this season, and he spent 2052 down in AA ball, but he came out of the gate in 2053 like a tiger and never looked back. .967 OPS, 3.1 WAR. That’ll do…
MINOR LEAGUE POY: P Eduardo Moreno, Single-A Hokkaido- 15-8, 3.45 ERA. Young for single-A at only 20; his future seems bright.
UNANSWERED FIGHTING CENTAURS QUESTION: I still need to know: if two centaurs fight, do they punch each other with their man-fists, or rear up and kick each other with their front hooves. I really need to know…
