Lots of doings since folks last heard from the gentlemen over in Athens. First and foremost, the hiring of new General Manager, John Heinz. Heinz is a self-described "workaholic" who likes to tinker on the fringes of a team in an effort to put it in the best position to win. Heinz's initial moves over his first month at the helm brought a few of those, as well as one major change.
The major change was the firing of Centuar Manager Melvin Sims. Sims managed the final 2 months of the 2047 season and was never a great fit, never finding a great relationship with the majority of the teams players. Brought in to replace him is former BBA minor leaguer, Devin Newman. Newman is just 36 and is certainly a players' manager, knowing personally the rigors of the day-in, day-out nature of professional baseball. HIs often fiery personality keeps players on their toes and engaged with the team.
Heinz also revamped the training room, letting long time team traniner Stanley Jennings seek over employment. Players just weren't finding their way back from injury quickly enough, and new trainer Wolde Azizi should aid in that effort.
Three players were brought in over the initial month, none of them overwhelmingly important signings in the grand scheme.
The lone arm sign was that of LHRP Ricardo Baez. After a 12-year span across 7 different BBA bullpens, Baez has spent the last 3 in the UMEBA, mostly pitching poorly. The Centaurs are pretty hard up for arms though, and for just a minor league contract it's worth taking a peek to see if he has anything left.
The player most likely to help the big club is CF Cristo Lopez. Lopez has been replacement level the last 2 years in the BBA but could be a solid asset in the UMEBA. Lopez makes solid contact and finds holes while providing plus defense in the OF, something sorely needed on the big-club. He could make for a solid late inning replacement and occasional sub against lefties.
The final player is more of the same in CF/SS Telma Puga. Puga is more of the same, a defender up the middle at a pair of key spots. He may not hit enough to stick, but he is the kind of depth that can be helpful to have around as the season rolls along.
More to come soon with a recap of Spring Training 2048!

Re: Centaur of Attention - 2048
I’d like to echo Joe’s thoughts. Good piece to start with, always like to see good writing. The UMEBA is picking up, a lot more GM’s producing good stuff now.
Keep up the good work
(One note though, if you number each Team News it helps Ron when he’s doing the count-ups of all the TN’s)
