For the 5th consecutive season, Mynorli Gaajlimitz has claimed the honor as the top hitter on the Portland Lumberjacks. Despite a down 2064 season, Mynorli still led the team with a .340 batting average and a .386 on-base percentage. Combined with his slugging percentage, his .815 OPS was also a team best.
Despite leading the team across the board in those categories, 2064 was a down season for the now $120 million superstar DH. His stat line saw a drop back down to numbers that mirrored his rookie season back in 2059 season when the then 19 year old hit just .336 with a .388 on-base percentage. That rookie season and this season are the only years over his now 6 big league seasons that Gaajlimitz has failed to reach base at over a .400 clip.
"We're not really sure if there is anything to blame for the dip" said team manager Mons Raider, "and you hate to declare it a down season. I mean hell, since when is hitting .340 with an on-base percentage even close to .400 considered a down year. Sure, it's a down year by Mynorli's status, but 99% of the players in the league would kill for even his 'down' seasons."
Despite some skeptics calling it a down year, Mynorli's .340 batting average was still the best in the Frick League, claiming him his 4th batting title in a 6 year span. In 2062, he hit a lofty .366 but finished 2nd in that year. Gaajlimitz's 230 hits this season was also the league's most, an honor he has now claimed for a 5th consecutive season. Gaajlimitz enters the 2065 season just 50 hits shy of 1,500 for his career. He'll be halfway to 3,000 sometime in May of 2065.
Reminder, he's just 24 years old.
Favorite Toy baseball projections states that Gaajlimitz has just a 47% chance at reaching 3,000 hits for his career. However, it only lists him playing for another 6.3 years. It gives him a 9% chance to match Felix Roman's career hit total of 4,004.
Hey, it's never too early to look ahead!
