There really wasn't any other possible candidates. It was either Manuel Camacho or not give out an award this year. Well, that might be a little drastic by not by much. Let's explain why.
Only one pitcher won double digit games this season. Manuel Camacho.
Only one pitcher managed to get a WAR over 2.0 as a starter. Manuel Camacho. In fact, Camacho accumulated more WAR than the next 3 starting pitchers combined. The other 4 starters only managed to get a total of 4.2 WAR. Camacho's was at 3.4.
I mean sure, two other starters did strike out more guys and 2 other guys did surpass 170 innings on the season. So I guess you could make a small case for them. But the case would be very small.
On the season, Manuel finished with an even 10-10 record with a 3.73 ERA and 1.18 WHIP. He led the team in wins, ERA, and WHIP and was tied amongst the starters with the fewest losses. Yep, all 5 of our starters lost at least 10 games this season. He struck out 136 batters which was just good enough for the 3rd most on the team but his 173.2 innings pitched led the team as well.
"This all just looks like a nice way of saying our rotation was bad last year" commented GM Chris Wilson. "Let's be honest here, Camacho was the best of the worst. Our entire pitching staff, bullpen included, was horrendous last year. No one really deserves an honor but this team prides itself on preserving history so lets give it to someone!"
