He managed to stay healthy just 10 games, but it appears Carlos Flores is headed back to the IL for the second time this young season. In Saturday night's loss to Vancouver, Flores was injured on the first batter of the game and had to be removed. The training staff diagnosed it as a strained shoulder.
"It's a tough blow to us early on" commented manager Mons Raider. "Flores looked like he was primed to have a season like last year but this will likely sideline him for a bit."
While Flores' injury has him listed as day to day, trainers state this is an injury that could linger for as long as month or more. The injury occurred when Flores threw the ball from behind the 2nd base bag to retire the first batter of the game Saturday.
Carlos is coming off one of the better seasons of his career. Last year he posted a 2.4 WAR and a .758 OPS behind a career high 23 homeruns and 82 runs batted in. Four of his eight hits this season were for extra bases.
The team is likely to put Flores on the 7-Day IL this week to see if the rest will help him heal sooner. Aires Penheranda is set to come off the IL this week after his brief stint battling tendenitis in his knee.
