Hold My Log - 57.15 - 2045 Draft; Cole; Portland

Post by 7teen » Sun Nov 26, 2023 8:56 am

With that shithole up north Vancouver announcing this week the contract extension of Phil Cole, it got me wondering who Portland drafted that season. El Paso had the 1st overall pick and Cole was the selection so therefore Portland really had no shot at him. Portland instead drafted 5th that year. After 2.5 years with the Chilis, El Paso traded Cole to the Mounties which yielded the Chilis a massive pile of shit. With that 5th overall pick in 2045, Portland selected Steve Warren.

A quick research of that draft shows that, yeah, Cole is the WAR leader of those drafted in 2045 by producing 46.31 WAR according to stats+. But did you know that Warren ranks 2nd with 38.36 total WAR produced, just ahead of Thomas Turner's 38.07 WAR? Turner was selected 3rd overall that draft by Charlotte.

While Cole may have the better WAR numbers and still with his same team, you could easily argue that Warren has had the better go at it in the BBA. Warren spent his best 9.5 seasons with the Lumberjacks where his 93 career wins ranks 2nd most in franchise history. Sure, Cole has 121 total wins and climbing on his resume, but Warren has been a part of a team that has claimed two Frick League pennants and appeared in two (though losing) Landis Series.

Rising cap numbers and detoriating ability forced Portland to trade Warren after 9.5 seasons with the club. He's since bounced around from Rocky Mountain, to Vegas, to Phoenix, and now ironically with Vancouver. In 2056 with Phoenix, Warren managed to produce a 3.0 WAR, his best since leaving Portland.

"We'll always have a spot for Warren here in Portland" GM Chris Wilson stated when being asked about Cole and that 2045 draft. "I have nothing to say about that other guy but Warren is always welcome here. Well, not always. As long as he's wearing that god awful tan and red he stay the fuck away, but once he takes off that "mount me" hat he's welcome back. We may have to hose him off but after that he's welcome."

On a side note, there is another Portland 2045 draft pick making a name for himself as well. Portland reliever Patrick Rosales was selected with the 13th pick in the 4th round in that draft. Rosales is currently in the Lumberjacks pen and has spent the last 6 seasons pitching with the big league squad after a shaky trek through the minor leagues. While his 3.8 WAR doesn't sniff that of Cole nor Warren, Rosales has logged 3 seasons with over 80.0 innings pitched out of the Lumberjacks pen and is currently having one of his better starts to any season being used in a "stoppers" role this season.

Love this trash talk. I’d say something but I’ll let our head to head record last year speak for me ;)

I'd love to forget this draft. I grabbed Kam Fiscus (-1.1 WAR) one pick before my own custom ammy Ryan Geauxinue (28.3 WAR)

If I can get back into writing fully, you’ll learn I loathe Vancouver. Dates back to the early 2000s and my time in Madison.

Haha...Terrence Kelley. Then traded him back and forth with Omaha a couple times. Good stuff.
