Coming off a 100-loss season, expectations were fairly low entering the 2056 season. With all the hints of a rebuild abound, things look extremely bleak for this season. Those fears came to fruition in the first week of the season as Portland kicked off the campaign with a solid 5-game losing streak which included an unacceptable sweep at the hands of the Mounties in Vancouver.
"I don't care how bad we are, losing games to Vancouver is still unacceptable" commented General Manager Chris Wilson after the team's 4-2 loss to wrap up the series. A series that saw Portland score just 5 runs in the 3-game series. "If these guys want to maintain a job in this league, they'll figure out a way to beat Vancouver in the future or else I'll find guys who will."
The tirade fell on deaf ears heading into the following series with Long Beach as the team dropped a pair before scratching out its first win of the season against Long Beach by the score of 6-2. The team was led by Pedro Bustamante's 3 hits and a trio of RBI. "It's good to get that first win" said Lumberjacks 1st year skipper Ricky Gibson. "Sometimes when you're in a funk like this team is over the last few years, it's hard to find that first win and shake off the funk. Maybe we can make a run now and relax. We'll see."
The club was able to shake off the funk the following week when the club welcomed Seattle to town. Sitting at 1-6 on the season, Portland managed to sweep the Storm. The followed that up with a win in Valencia to snag a 4 game winning streak. The team managed to split a 4 game set with Valencia and appeared headed for better times. At 6-8, there was some optimism prior to an extended home stand.
"There are ups and downs to every season" added Gibson. "Hopefully we can find some level ground and maybe hover around .500 for a while."
However the valleys kicked on the homestand. Portland lost back to back series against the dreaded Heartland teams of Louisville and Portland.
Portland currently sits at 8-12 and in 6th place in the Pacific. Overall, I think most would take a .400 winning percentage this season from the Lumberjacks, even if that does put them at the bottom of the Pacific field.

When I can't let go of my Madison past.
And I'm sure if I played myself we'd still go 0-2!
