Once upon a time in a not so distant past, the Portland Lumberjacks pitching staff was the envy of the league. While never carrying a true ace, the staff had 4-6 guys at any point that would have likely been the #2 pitcher in everyone's rotation. That allowed the team to cruise into the post-season and win many games. However, I guess father time is catching up to this now veteran staff. 2054 was collectively the worst pitching performance this staff had put together as it yielded just one double digit winner and no starter with an ERA under 4.00. Of course the top 4 arms did produce a combined WAR close to 12.0 in 2054, but something just felt off. But with all that said, one guy still stood out somewhat above the rest.

With a 10-15 overall record, Chris Thompson claimed his second consecutive Lumberjacks top pitcher award. He led the rotation in 2054 in wins, ERA, innings pitched, WHIP, and WAR and was second in strikeouts. On the season, he started 33 games, posting the aforementioned 10-15 record with 203.2 innings pitched that yielded a 4.55 ERA and 1.35 WHIP with 142 strikeouts.

Heading into his 9th big league season in 2055, Thompson will hope for a rebound as he is 13 wins away from becoming the second pitcher in Lumberjacks history to reach the 100 wins for the franchise. He'd join Ken Sparks as the only pitcher in franchise history to do so. But he'd also have to jump Steve Warren, who is 7 wins shy of the milestone.

I wish he would leave the Frick.
