Hold My Log - 54.08 - The Inn is Full

Post by 7teen » Thu Feb 23, 2023 3:23 pm

for the first time in franchise history, the Portland Lumberjacks have invited the maximum of 70 players to spring training. This despite only having 31 players on the 40-man roster to enter the season. There has been a lot of discussion in recent days over what the right amount of players to invite to spring training is. And the discussion has shifted over shaking off rust and what not for players. When asked why Portland was inviting the maximum in 2054, Wilson stated:

"We have championships to win. We have to make sure everyone is ready to play."

When corrected that the team could only win one championship in 2054, Wilson retorted:

"Wrong! The people of Quincy, Alpine Valley, and Wise also want championships. Their players need to be ready to go from day 1 as well. We understand that winning a Landis title is the main objective here. And our main roster guys are getting a bulk of the action. But with recent decisions, we are going all in in 2054 to bring multiple titles to this organization. So we want all of our veterans, regardless of age or ability, to be ready when the season starts at their respective levels. We will have full teams in our minors to kick off the season and those guys will be ready to win titles."

In fact, it appears it is more than just numerous players that are in camp for Portland. But a majority of the organizations minor league coaches are here this spring as well. Here is a list of coaches in attendance:

Chris Martinez - Pitching coach for Quincy AAA
Jack Wilson - Pitching coach for Alpine Valley AA
James Wilson - Manager for Wise A
Chris Harris - Hitting coach for Wise A
Chris Myers - Pitching coach for Antigua Low A
Chris Sweet - Hitting coach for Antigua Low A
Chris Sharpe - Hitting coach for Bend Rookie

This group of rookies has also been working with Portland team trainer, Chris Gilmore, on proper care for prospects and veterans alike.
