Hold My Log - 49.25 - Under Covers With Kate; Vol.4
The room was bright. The narrow light of the heat lamp shone brightly on her aging, though still very tight and young looking face. The room was dark and dusky despite the lamp. The room was filled with the aroma of the burning cigarette both sitting in the ash tray and in the puckered lips of the gentleman whos eye gained down upon Kate. Kate paid the man very little notice, seemingly ignoring the questions and comments made in her direction. No, her mind was elsewhere.
He was alive when she left, that's all that mattered to her. She knew the cause of death wasn't known but she knew the cause. His heart just couldn't handle it in the end. That's why she always preferred younger men, moreso the spry young men coming into the minor leagues. She was still off in her thoughts. Thoughts that recalled her buttoning her shirt against her chest, struggling to get those final few buttons done. She knew at some point the fellas would get their dream and see those buttons fly off but today wouldn't be the day. She envisioned bidding him farewell as she straightened her skirt over her legs, making sure to remove any stray wrinkle that may be left behind.
"Will I see you again" the older chap said, still struggling to catch his breath from the night's escapade. She envisioned giving him a sly laugh and a wink.
"You're a nice old man. But no."
She walked out of the room and closed the door behind her. She stood outside the door way, pondering whether or not the night was worth it. She always had that slight feeling of guilt after a night like this but like always, she just shrugged it off , took a deep breath, and went on about her day. The smell of butter and cabbage lingered in her nostrils as she left the establishment. But that's when things began to turn in her head. Just hours later she heard the screaming of sirens as she awaited her flight in her room at the Motel 6 across town. She flipped on the television to see exactly what the ruckus was about when she saw the news that the man she was with, just hours later, had unexpectedly, died! Sweat began to pour over her chest. She was becoming distraught.
Kate snapped to at the sound of banging. Her subconscious said it was someone at the door but she was back in the smoke filled room. The investigator was pounding on the table, bringing her back to the present.
"We know you were with him that night, Kate" screamed the man in a tie, still clinging to the cigarette in his lips. "Did you kill Stephen Collins, Jr? The evidence does not look good, Kate."
Kate's eyes darted around the room. Panic was setting in. The sweat that was pouring over her in her daydreaming state began oozing from her pours yet again. Only now in the dim room. The light shined even brighter on her face. Did she kill him? Is a night with her now considered deadly? The voice continued echoing in her head "Did you do it? Kate, did you kill him" Her eyes darted around the room. Faster. Her heart began beating out of her chest. She searched for an answer. How was she going to get out of this. The man with the cigarette pounded the table harder.
"DID YOU KILL THE OWNER OF THE DES MOINES KERNELS!?" it shouted. She began to tremble. She looked up, then lowered her head and began to answer.
Suddenly she snapped to. The bed filled with sweat. Her naked body sat there, trembling.
She had dreamt it all. She had never even been with Stephen Collins, Jr. She didn't even know Stephen Collins, Jr. In fact, who the fuck was Stephen Collins, Jr. She exhaled loudly. Her naked body exposed in bed to the glim light from the street light outside shining through the curtain in her loft apartment bedroom.
"You alright" muttered a voice from beside her in the bed.
"Yeah, I'm good. Just a crazy dream. I dreamt I killed the Des Moines owner" Kate answered back as the other figure in the bed draped his arm around her creased waist as she sat in the bed.
"It was just a dream. Go back to sleep. We have a game tomorrow."
Kate laid back down. "Just a dream" she muttered to herself.
"Oh, and thanks for helping me get my pitching back" Lorenzo muttered as they both drifted back to sleep.

Oh man. I would've suspected Kate, but I know of her aversion to Babs Collins Jr.'s sloppy seconds.
They say it don't be like it is, but it do!

Working on the post-Kate plan.
Or perhaps Kate just never ages.

Even if that means consoling the AGM during a bad dream. Naked. In bed.
