We Got Wood - 48.25 - Portland Wins 10 Straight

Post by 7teen » Tue Oct 19, 2021 8:39 am

We made the comment a few team news ago that now was the time for Portland to make their move if they were going to try and creep back into the post-season hunt. The team is trying to make that move which was highlighted this past week by the team winning it's franchise record 10th consecutive game at home against Valencia. The team managed to sweep Twin Cities, sweep Des Moines, sweep Vancouver, and then take the series opener against Valencia to accomplish the winning streak.

"Well, it has us somewhat back in the hunt anyway" commented all-star outfielder Wilson Alomar. "We still have an uphill battle but at least can say we have an outside shot at it. We just have to continue the trend we are on, make up games when we can, and see where we land. Hopefully it'll be an exciting final 6 weeks of the season."

The winning streak has narrowed the gap between Portland and the post-season to 5.5 games. Omaha currently holds the final spot with Nashville perched between Omaha and Portland for the 4th and final spot. Portland has series with both Omaha and Nashville left on the schedule.

"We can't quite look that far down the road yet" commented outfielder Fernando Castillo who is playing some of his best baseball since leaving Vancouver. "We have some tough games ahead of us. Yeah, we took care of business against some bottom teams in the standings. But can we beat the teams that are likely going into the post-season already? That'll be the test for sure."

Portland will host Sacramento and Chicago 6 of the next 11 games in Portland. The Lumberjacks must hold serve in those games if they want to continue to contend. Currently, the projected total for the post-season is 92 wins. Earlier, we projected 88 to be the goal. The club still has to go 24-15 to reach 88 wins on the season. Portland is projected to just have a 1.1% chance of making the post-season in 2048.
