Fresh off of his 2047 Gillstrom Award winning season as the Frick League's top rookie, Lumberjacks manager Farri Agymah has named Ken Sparks as the team's opening day starter when it travels to Vancouver to kick off the season with its most hated rival. Sparks, who posted 12 wins, a 3.13 ERA, and 5.2 WAR in 2047 is excited for the challenge.

"To be named the opening day starter for any franchise is a tremendous honor" said the 22 year old, former 1st round pick. "To be named the top guy on this staff really means something. I think Farri could have picked any one of us to be the opening day guy, but I'm honored he chose me. Now the competition begins amongst all of us starters to see who can rise to the top this season and be the best on what I feel is the Vic Caleca Best Staff in the League."

Agymah didn't get into many more details for the rotation as the team is still making final roster decisions and cuts heading into the three day series with the Mounties. There is plenty of speculation that "one of the lefties" will take the ball in game 2, either Chris Thompson or last year's opening day starter Steve Warren. Speculation is Frank Walbourne will fill one of the 5 spots in the rotation after a solid 11 win campaign a year ago and 2.0 WAR. The rookies Felix Vidaca and Randolph Marable will contend for the final spot.

"It all depends on whether we want another right handed pitcher or lefty in the rotation" added Wilson. "Seems we had another lefty around here once that could have been in the rotation as well. Damn you Rule 5 draft!"

Don't worry. Portland always starts the season 1-5 so you're going to get at least 2 wins against us. I expect to be swept in Vancouver to start the season off.
