Clearly what was needed in Portland was more cowbell. Well, more cowbell and more runs. And in all honesty, Reggie Leeper is likely to bring more cowbell with him to the Lumberjacks than runs. But hey, we needed a catcher and why not nab one that just came off a Brewster winning season with Vegas!

Portland signed catcher Reggie Leeper to a 2 year deal with year two being a team option. Leeper is expected to come over and platoon as catcher with Ramon Camacho. The team hopes the catching duo can perform to a positive number in 2048 unlike last season where Camacho and the departed Michael Dunn combined to post a -1.2 WAR combined with equal parts -0.6 WAR each.

"While we know it can get worse" commented GM Chris Wilson, "it can't get much worse than last year behind the plate. Perhaps we're blind, or stupid, or both but we think Camacho is a little better than his numbers indicated last year. Leeper is no all-star either, but he did post a good 2044 so maybe he can catch lightning in a bottle again in 2048. Hell, there aren't any great catchers available out there so we're just hoping two guys can piece together a positive season for us. At worse, Leeper can flash his Brewster ring around. It's been a long time since I've won one of those so I'd like to see how the new ones look compared to my retro models."

Early indications are that manager Farri Agymah will try and balance out the starts between Leeper and Camacho in 2048 with Leeper getting the bulk of the starts against RHP and Camaco LHP. And who knows, maybe one of them brings a cowbell.
