If there is one thing for certain it's that Portland GM Chris Wilson isn't afraid to spend owner David Wallace's money during free agency. For yet another off-season (it appears this is a yearly theme) Wilson has gone all out and splurged on yet another big name superstar. This year, Wilson went out and poached from division rival Hawaii none other than Ernest McBride in an effort to boost what was the league's most woeful offense a season ago.

"Did we overspend for Ernest" asked Wilson to himself. "Yep" he quickly answered his own question. "Did we have the money? Yep. Did our offense suck last year. Yep. Are we trying to fix it by any means necessary? Well, you know the answer to that one."

McBride joins Portland after having a solid 7 year start to his career as a Tropics where he hit 276 homeruns over that span including 3 consecutive 40+ homer seasons. Ernest will add some legitimacy to an offense that was the Frick's worst last season by a sizeable margin. Portland scored just 532 runs last year, 70 shy of the next worst offense out of Des Moines. He also joins the team just one off-season removed from Portland splurging on Wilson Andrade to play shortstop last season.

The next challenge for manager Farri Aggymah will be deciding which DH can play 1B between McBride and Andrew Gallagher. He'll also have to figure out whether the other cast of guys like Jorge Lugo, Joey O'Brien, or Millard Younger want to hit at all in 2048.

"Our window of opportunity is now" added Wilson. "We have the pitching staff to make a run at a post-season spot. We project to be better in 2048 than we were in 2047. We have 3-4 top of the rotation starters and 3-4 relievers that can shut any game we are winning down. But damn, we have to figure out a way to score some runs."
