We Got Wood - 46.22 - Alternate those Wins and Losses

Post by 7teen » Tue Mar 23, 2021 10:18 am

We've gotten busy. Real life gets in the way some times. Kids playing multiple sports, me trying to re-create or just find something that can pass as a golf game again, actual work.... Makes it hard to dive into the fake stuff like fake baseball and Kate's fake boobs (oh wait, they're real, right?) Needless to say we've missed a few sims of recaps. Perhaps it was getting swept by Hawaii that caused us to lose a little juice. Nah, it was real life. And nothing like taking two against Omaha to conclude the latest sim to revive the team news juices. Of course the two wins comes after a run in which the Lumberjacks alternated wins and losses over the stretch of 10-days. But hey, the team is 6-games shy of the official halfway point of the season and is still just 6 games under .500. It's the club's best record this late in the season in franchise history so we aren't complaining!

Miguel Cortez
This game we call OOTP can be a funny mistress. After seasons of 3.1, 1.3, and 1.6 WAR, the OOTP devil decided Cortez was going to suck in 2045 and have him post a -1.4. Out of nowhere, Cortez went from a solid player in CF to a bum. Well, he's back again for now. Cortez hit .429 this sim thanks to 6 hits in 14 at-bats as well as belting a homerun and driving in 3 RBI. He is now batting an inexplainable .366/.417/.537 on the season with 6 homeruns and 30 RBI. That's all good for a 1.7 WAR on the season. So..... go figure!

Antonio Garcia
It was probably a lineup boo-boo on our part. Honestly, I should just fire the manager, but it worked out ok. Somehow Antonio started 3 games this sim. He managed to win 2 of the 3 and the other was a loss given to the bullpen. Of course when you start games on back to back days what can one expect. Garcia held Long Beach to 1 run on 3 hits over 5.1 innings in his first start. He didn't K a batter and walked one. The following day he took the mound again, recording 2 outs while allowing a hit and a walk. No runs were allowed. Then against Omaha, Garcia lasted 6.1 shutout innings, allowing just 1 hit and 1 walk while striking out 7.

Ok, this is the pitcher of the sim award and TECHNICALLY the first LB start was last sim, but oh well. That was a stretch of 12.1 innings in which Antonio allowed 1 run on 5 hits, 3 walks, while striking out 7. Not too shabby Mr. Garcia!

Kate's Kookies Highlight of the Sim
Portland defeated Omaha 3-0 behind that stellar start by Garcia. The team allowed just 2 hits while striking out 12. Five pitchers combined to walk 3 guys however. Cortez hit a 2-run homerun and catcher Mike Dunn added a solo blast to tally all the Lumberjacks runs in the win.
