What does a .500 record look like in June? Well, fans of the Portland Lumberjacks wouldn't know because they've never been to .500 that late in the season. And they may not this season but the team was oh so close during the most recent sim. Sitting at 27-30 at the moment, Portland was close to .500 but dropped two consecutive games against Chicago to end the sim. The club took 2 of 3 from Des Moines to get to within a game of the .500 mark. The club now has 14 straight games against teams with a better record than the Lumberjacks up coming, and with 11 of those on the road, there's a good chance this next stretch will likely ruin the team's chances of reaching the mark.

Jorge Lugo
It was clearly Lugo. We wrote a whole TN about his cycle, but he was 9 for 27 in the sim with a pair of homeruns and 8 RBI. Gallagher had a good run as well and could have been considered but Lugo made history and had a good week so we're going with him.

Pitcher of the Sim

Vincente Venalde
Hard when you go 3-3 and give the top pitcher to a guy who went 0-1, but Venalde wasn't bad. He started two games, pitching 9 innings in all, allowing 6 hits and 2 walks while striking out 4. He allowed just 1 run that sim, an unearned run to Chicago that resulted in a 1-0 loss to the Black Sox. Venalde is having a solid season as a starter right now. Setting us up for another disastrous second half I'm sure.
