We Got Wood - 46.10 - Jouda Claimed off Waivers by Chilis

Post by 7teen » Sun Feb 28, 2021 4:27 pm

The Lumberjacks were somewhat fortunate after spring training in that they had enough roster flexibility that they didn't have to risk putting many guys on waivers as the team broke camp and headed towards Vancouver for opening day. The front office had to make the decision to put one guy on DFA and waivers in order to meet the 27-man roster requirements. It was hoped that no one would claim Teruo Jouda off waivers and the club could hang onto him for future services. However, it wasn't meant to be. During the last sim, Jouda was claimed off waivers by the El Paso Chilis and will take his talents south and over to the Johnson League.

Jouda's main value to any organization was his outstanding ability to play several positions and play them extremely well. A utility man by every definition, Jouda can play 4 positions extremely well while playing 2 others solidly. That ability has allowed him to float between Portland and Triple-A Quincy with the organiztion for the better part of six seasons after he was acquired in a trade from Brooklyn. In fact, from 2041 through 2045, Jouda saw action at both levels, accumulating 528 at-bats with the big league club during that span. Unfortunately for Jouda, the bat is what kept him from seeing regular action.

In fact, he had a -2.4 WAR over his first 4 seasons with Portland until last season when he climbed his way into the positive ranks, posting a 0.4 WAR in 56 games played, the second most big league games he had seen since 2041.

"We were afraid his glove ability may draw some interest on the waiver wire" commented Kate Fiscus. "His ability to play all of those positions makes him a valuable 26th or 27th man on a roster. We just didn't have the room nor need for Jouda this season and unfortunately lost him to El Paso on waivers. We wish Jouda the best."

These guys are always so tantalizing. If they can just hit a little but. Still that versatility allows you to gain value other places.
