We Got Wood - 46.03 - Portland Trades for a Catcher

Post by 7teen » Sun Feb 14, 2021 11:57 am

In a deal that won't make league headlines, and will probably make most pity the Lumberjacks more than they already do, the Portland front office struck a deal with Montreal to acquire what appears to be the team's starting catcher for the 2046 season. Portland acquired 26 year old, Triple-A catcher Michael Dunn in exchange for 17 year old Hazgm Danishmend from the team's international complex in the deal with the Blazers.

"We examined all of our possibilities in finding a suitable catcher for this season" commented team assistant GM Kate Fiscus, "and there just wasn't a lot of options. We actually examined every team's minor league system in search of a left handed hitting catcher with some solid defensive abilities and the best we came across who could play this season was Dunn. We had our eyes on a few free agents similar to Dunn, but the UMEBA league was driving prices up on some of these guys to the point to where it made no sense for us to sign those guys so we decided to just go this route. Hopefully the platoon option we have in place for 2046 will be serviceable."

Early indications are that Dunn will catch all games against right handed pitching in 2046 while Ramon Camacho, the team's primary catcher last season after the trading of Pedro Gomez to Chicago, will catch against left handed pitching.

Dunn has spent 5 straight seasons in Triple-A where he has posted WARs ranging from 1.3 up to 3.6. He's accumulated 12.8 WAR over that stretch. While he won't post those numbers in the BBA, the organization is optimistic that given 80-100 starts against mainly right handed pitching he can at least be serviceable while the same is hoped for from Camacho on the other side of the dish.

"If the two can combine together for a positive WAR in 2046 we'll consider it a success" concluded Fiscus.
