With the 43rd overall pick in the 2045 amateur draft, the Lumberjacks went away from the script. The script normally states the Lumberjacks try and find the best pitcher still available in the draft. But with 1,000 or some odd pitchers already taken, the Lumberjacks instead chose to focus on adding a solid bat to the lineup. After losing out on a few guys they wanted to earlier picks, the front office weeded through the remaining bodies and selected Centerfielder Domingo Mendez.

Mendez is a 21 year old centerfielder from the college of Anheiser-Busch Budweisers. Mendez had a solid effort in his lone year at the school, hitting .327/.438/.565 with 7 homeruns and 20 RBI in 38 games played. He produced a 2.3 WAR. He throws left handed but hits right-handed.

"We are high on Mendez as a potential CF for this Lumberjacks in the future" said assistant general manager Kate Fiscus. "He has solid contact, power, and gap power that could allow him to be a contributor to a big league lineup. His defense is also just good enough with think he can make it in CF. We are also extremely happy to nab a guy who scouts rank him as a potential 55 player in the second round, especially after the last few seasons of weak drafts."

The biggest concern right now for Mendez is the fact he his already 21 going on 22 and still has a little bit of ways to go before he's developed.

"There is a concern he's not fully matured for his age" added general manager Chris Wilson. "But we have some ideas on how to mature our younger guys in a hurry if we feel they need it."

The team is currently in negotiations with Mendez's agent and both sides are confident the outfielder will sign with the club.
