We might be stepping on @unspecialist toes here by talking about one of his current players, but considering San Fernando is only good for about 5 Team News a season we'll assume he won't be writing about Gusby Pinkerton's win over his former club in Portland....

But the Lumberjacks fell to the Bears 8-4 Sunday night in a game started by Pinkerton. For those who may not recall, Pinkerton spent his rookie season with the Lumberjacks and was a Portland number 1 pick back in 2041. The southpaw hurler had a solid season in 2044, finishing runner-up for the Frick League's Gillstrom Award to the top rookie.

Pinkerton didn't pitch extremely well against Portland Sunday in the game played in San Fernando, but he was good enough to beat Terrence Kelly on this given night. Gusby allowed 4 runs on 5 hits and a walk while striking out 6 in 6.1 innings pitched. The win was Pinkerton's first with the Bears and of the season.

Pedro Gomez gave the Lumberjacks a short-lived lead when he hit a 2-run homer in the top of the first inning off his former teammate. "I gave him a little wink as I rounded the bases" said Gomez of his former battery mate. "It was in good humor. He took it in stride and we laughed about it after the game."

Hector Vazquez had a good game in the loss. Vazquez went 2-4 including a double he hit off Pinkerton in the 5th.

Of the nine batters to face Pinkerton in the lineup on this night, just 4 of them were teammates of Gusby last season with the Lumberjacks. Gomez, Engeitado, Mendoza, and Cortez.
