With over three dozen players floating on the post Spring-training waiver wire, the Portland Lumberjacks threw a claim out there and added catcher Ramon Camacho to the roster. Camacho had been waived by the Nashville Bluebirds in a roster move to get down to 27-men for opening day.
The 25 year-old Camacho hasn't had much success to this point in his BBA career. He debuted back in 2041 and played a career high 46 games. He hit .214/.289/.351 while producing a negative 0.1 WAR. A year later, he saw just 12 games of action and performed considerably worse. After a solid year in the minor leagues in 2043 and another solid run for Triple-A Orlando in 2044, Nashville gave Camacho just 4 games of late season action in 2044 where he collected 4 doubles and a single in 15 at-bats. Nashville however opted to stick with Teegan Nyland as their primary back-up this season and waived Camacho.
The addition of Camacho gives Portland three "catchers" on their roster. Pedro Gomez will continue getting the regular starts with rest days when needed. Camacho is now expected to replace fan favorite Aaron Stone as the primary back-up.
"Aaron [Stone] just doesn't have the physical ability to be a guy who plays 30-40 games" said team assistant general manager Kate Fiscus. "We'll continue to use Stone sparingly and as a pinch hitter in certain cases throughout the season."
Fiscus did not inform the press as to who would be removed from the 27-man roster. Assuming Stone stays to tip his cap to the fans, speculation is 6th outfielder Bing-zhang Kim would be DFA'd and placed on waivers. Only two position players have options for Portland and both are regular starters and unlikely to be sent to Triple-A to make room for Camacho.

Had a feeling someone would pick him up. Not terrible, but was only an emergency catcher.

Yeah, he's just one of those guys that some teams don't need and some teams can use. Camacho is a back-up catcher. I needed one so figured he's worth a flyer. Doesn't hurt you to lose. Ted talked a lot about this in the first part of our "Gambling" podcast over the weekend.
